Joining National vs local-only
PSSRA has two options for joining us. You can either join and become a member of National SRA, or you can join as a chapter-only “Local Comrade”. Both allow vetted individuals to join our range days and participate in our Discord, but there are some important differences.
We recommend making this decision based primarily on your comfort being on National SRA’s roster.
Both National Members and Local Comrades
- Allowed to participate in any chapter range day or event, as long as prerequisites met
- Access to all Discord channels open to any vetted member
- Full vetting process prior to getting access to events and Discord
- Appear on local chapter roster (doesn’t have to be under a legal name)
- Subject to PSSRA Codes of Conduct
- Access to PSSRA’s Member Welfare Committee to address grievances and violations of chapter codes of conduct
National Members
- Appear on National SRA’s roster (doesn’t have to be under a legal name)
- Yearly membership: $36, may be waived by application to National
- Yearly dues benefit National SRA infrastructure, which provides legal, administrative, insurance, and public relations help to PSSRA
- Allowed to vote in elections for all chapter officers, and National’s organizing committee
- Allowed to vote on chapter bylaws amendments
- Allowed to serve in any leadership role
- Have access to the National Welfare Committee to address grievances and violations of chapter and National SRA codes of conduct
Local Comrades
- Member of the public as far as National SRA is concerned
- NOT technically a “member” of either SRA or PSSRA
- Yearly donation: $25, may be waived by Chapter Treasurer
- Only allowed to vote in elections for some chapter officers
- Not allowed to vote on bylaws amendments
- Allowed to serve in local-chapter-only leadership roles
Please email join@pugetsoundsra.org if you have any questions about the difference between these options!
If you are interested in joining as a Local Comrade, please inquire over email and we’ll send instructions.
